Meeting an All Black
Thanks to some lucky kids at our school having Mils Muliaina as an uncle we were lucky enough to get to meet him before he jetted off to Japan.
He was so friendly and generous - he signed so much stuff for us and even posed in a photo with some of our die hard rugby fans!

Maths Day
Whanau Mahira had a wonderful Maths Day last week.
We did Moko Symmetry with Maureen, Amazing Mazes with Fabienne, Measurement using our bodies with Tammy and Scavenger Hunting using directions with An-Ya.
On the Scavenger Hunt We had to follow directions with our group to find clues which told us actions to take photos of.
The types of directions we had to follow were things like:
Walk UP the bank. Turn LEFT at Room 24 and walk towards Room 12. STOP when you are HALFWAY BETWEEN the tree and the last clue etc.
The types of actions we did were:
Make 17 with two people.
Take a photo with the tallest and the shortest person in your group.
Find a shape in the playground and take its photo.
Show high and low, above and below or in front and behind in a photo.
Find a sign and take a photo of it.
and
Take a photo of your group pulling a funny face.
Here are some photos that An-Ya managed to get in all the action - we had so much fun and we really had to work together to get some of the photos!

Wow, this term is flying by!
We are in Week 3 and already we have: performed our Rich Task Robot Rock dance two times (once each for the primary and intermediate school), met Mils Muliaina (All Black), gone on treasure hunts, worn CANTEEN banadanas to help raise money for the fight against Cancer, harvested our garden for the Great Day Out, spent hundreds of dollars at our Great Day Out fair, hosted an art show, tried our hand at stop motion videos, been swimming in FREEZING cold water (due to the gas leak) AND learned heaps!
It isn't long until the end of the year and we have so much to experience. We hope you like looking at what we have been up to and feel free to comment and ask us about our learning.

Holidays!
Hi Room 12, I hope you are having a lovely time with your families over this holiday break.
I have managed to fit in movies, gardening, sleep ins, walks to the beach, visiting my Nana, making crafts with your mums for the Balmoral Great Day Out, catching up with friends and watching the ALL BLACKS!
What have you all been doing?
Wasn't it fantastic to watch the All Blacks win against the Wallabies - they played so hard and I can't wait for the final next weekend. Are any of you going to the final at Eden Park?

TWO DAYS TO GO!!!!
It is two days until the opening of the Rugby World Cup.
Our school is very close to Eden Park so many of the streets around school are clothed in FLAGS! The most flags I have seen are Tongan flags. We are pretty good at recognising which flags belong to which countries.
Which team are you supporting in the Rugby World Cup?
In our class we have all the flags of the countries we are supporting except Scotland and South Africa as their flags have SOLD OUT!
Are any of you going to a game or the opening ceremony at the waterfront? I am a bit worried as the traffic will be terrible and it might take too long to get to the waterfront and home again to watch the first game Tonga Vs. All Blacks.
On Friday we will paint our faces in our team colours and wear our team colours to show our support. How exciting!

Term Two Photo Collage
In this collage you can see some of the amazing things we experienced at the end of Term 2.
- We celebrated 100 days at school by helping Koru syndicate with their count to 100.
- We watched the Hangi that was made for the Year 7's Rich Task - it made us warm but very hungry.
- Jonty Rutherford came to talk to us about how to keep Kiwi safe in the wild. He showed us a predator trap and then we got to peck "worms" out of
the "foliage" with our "probing beak" - just like a Kiwi!
- When it was Maori Language Week we learnt how to ask a buddy "How many?" of something in Te Reo. Which is, "E Hia?" Then answering in Te Reo! We are pretty good at counting in Maori up to 100 or Kotahi Rau and saying the date.
- We made paper for our Sustainability Rich Task - It was SO messy.
- Some awesome guys from Kiwi Kick and Auckland Football came to teach us ball skills. The most favourite games were Cowboys and Indians in football and Aim for the Teacher in Kiwi Kick.
- In Room 12 one of our favourite things to do for fitness is play Ro Sham Bo. It is like Paper, Scissors, Rock but you use your whole body for the actions.
Bring on Term 3 and the fun we will have with the Rugby World Cup, Dance Rich Task and the Arts Festival just to name a few fun things!

Maori Language Week!

BOOK WEEK!
This week is Book Week at our school. We have the Scholastic book fair happening in the reading room all week.
We also have Francis Plumpton coming to talk to us tomorrow in the library.
On Thursday we will be dressing up as our favourite book characters - I still haven't decided... I love so many books.
What is your favourite book and who will you be dressing up as?

The Eyes of the Ariki - A Mataariki story by Room12 based on a traditional Maori legend
There are many stories about Mataariki - this is but one. We performed this story at assembly after reading and watching clips about Mataariki last week.
Once upon a time there was only darkness, nothing but night time.
And in this darkness two being lay together.
Ranginui the Sky Father and Papatuanuku the Earth Mother.
They had children.
And for a time all was good.
But the children started growing.
They were restless and fidgety.
They started arguing.
They felt trapped and wanted space to move.
The parents woke up.
Someone was pushing them.
It was Tane Mahuta their son.
Until finally Tane had separated his parents.
The children were free at last.
And Rangi was so sad, he cried.
But someone else was sad too.
Tawhiri, god of the wind and storms, felt sad for his parents. He started crying.
But his tears were lightening.
And he threw his tears to the heavens.
His tears became stars and some people call these stars Mataariki.

Our VISY Recycling Centre trip
This is a video from our visit to the VISY Recycling Plant. We watched the trucks come in and dump the recycling in a pile. The pile was so big it needed to be pushed around by a front end loader! We also learned what we can recycle and what we shouldn't put in the recycling bin.

Stepping Out
Last term we had a visit from Sergeant Deane. He taught us how to cross the road safely and took us on a walk around the block to practice.
We remembered to stop at the curb, take a step back from the curb, use our eyes and our ears and look both ways to check for cars, then walk safely and briskly across the road.

Auckland Art Gallery Trip
Here we are at the Education Centre at the Auckland Art Gallery. We are learning how to show who we are through portraiture. In our portraits we drew things, places and people that were special to us and we used ink to stamp our hand and fingerprints on our art. We were learning about Turangawaewae for our Term One Rich Task.
Red and Black fundraising day for the Canterbury Earthquake
Here are some photos of us on our fundraising day for the Canterbury Earthquake appeal. All the proceeds from us wearing red and black and bringing in a gold coin went to the Red Cross!
After a long day we took the sprinkler out to cool off and take the red and black face paint off our faces :)
